About the Website

The name of my website is Heartdrops – not Heart Drops or HeartDrops. That will save you pressing the “Shift” key. :P

I love the song Raindrops by Armor For Sleep but I could not think of a name with the word “rain”. I thought of ‘heartlight’, derived from the song Injection by Rise Against – “as a light turns off inside your heart”. I didn’t really like it so I merged the lyrics of the two songs together.

The Story

I learned basic HTML when I was about ten years old, from Neopets, and learned more from Draac.com. That website helped me a lot. I had a few webpages at MatMice.com, before signing up for a website at Freewebs. I had the website name Beyond Paradise, and used layout templates for several months. All I had on my websites were personal things like my biography and my favourite websites.

I had a go at coding layouts on my own in 2004. I had my longest-running site name of Out The Window (four years). I made all my layouts in Paint. Back then I had a pixel website so I had many pixelled, scribbled or collage-type layouts.

My account at Freewebs got blocked and I moved to Angeltowns. Unfortunately, they removed free hostees without notice due to some problems, and I lost most of my files as I didn’t have backups. I was then kindly hosted by Tracey at electric-ribbons.com. Her host had some problems though, and both our sites were shut down not long after I’d made my home.

After a long time searching, not wanting to return to Freewebs, I moved to 50webs. Quite some time later I was offered hosting by Liza at Visual-Nightmare.com. After a year I decided to move and was hosted by my friend Bennilyn for three months. During that time both my graphic and coding skills improved a lot.

In October 2008, after entering a few domain competitions and being unsuccessful, I decided to buy my own domain for a bit more freedom and to start afresh. Heartdrops is my first domain. I had quite a few host changes before moving to be hosted by Kya, who hosts me now.

Regarding blogging, I started blogging around 2003, and I had an account at LiveJournal. I wanted to blog because I enjoyed journalling and wanted to try sharing my stories online. I didn’t like LiveJournal and moved to a friends-only blog on MSN Spaces as it was rather popular. Around 2007 I decided to permanently blog on my website instead. I have gone from using Haloscan to FanUpdate to WordPress and have enjoyed it very much.
