The “I Love” Project

Every year since 2010 I have decided to celebrate my domain's birthday on the 11th October with some kind of project. Last year, it was the 'Love is...' Project and you submitted your definitions of love. This year, you shared what it is that you love.

On the 9th October 2011, this layout was put up with a rotation above the sidebar with chosen submissions. Read more...

Site Name

No problems here.

Coding and Validation

Your coding is valid and so is your CSS. There’s really nothing to pick at or improve with your coding; it’s pretty good! I am unsure whether you created the layout yourself but that isn’t bothering me.

Browser Compatibility & Usability

Your site is navigable and functions in Firefox, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer.

The text can be easily read and the navigation is easy to spot – no problems here.

Layout

I don’t know if you created this layout yourself. It’s a very simple and clean layout and I like the use of one colour in several different shades.

The site name looks a bit out of place. I think you could use Photoshop to create something – a header of sorts, perhaps with a few brushes, or something simple. It would really spice up the layout a bit. I don’t have very much to say on the layout and I know you have a personal site but it could be a little more welcoming and exciting.

Content

About

On this page you mention “spring”, but seasons differ in different countries so it would be best to include a month or date.
ASAP to my questions would be better expressed as to my questions ASAP.

On your full biography page you might want to include the authors of your favourite books.
Hi there, my name’s Anne should be Hi there; my name’s Anne.

I’m not sure what you mean by “I ponder if I should walk in a specific direction” – I think you might mean “wonder” or “I ponder walking in a specific direction”.

Your credits page is great; no complaints.

You might want to include a general email on the contact form page in case visitors can’t tell from your Yahoo or AOL links.

Writings

I love so many of your poems. I didn’t thoroughly read through each one but they vary so greatly in mood and tone. I really like Charlotte Rivers. This one stood out to me so greatly from the ones I read. It put such a picture in my mind. I also liked Questions For The Ribbon Girl. I think it was quite poignant and touching. I think I am really a fan of the poems you write with such a prominent subject. It’s quite different from other poems I’ve come across; different from poems which describe feelings.

I love how your song lyrics are put into albums. It gives them so much more meaning. I also like the story behind “First Impressions in Junior High”, and I love the idea of “City Streets”. All of these albums remind me of strong concept albums I’ve heard of, and I just love how you have so much meaning behind your lyrics and you seem to put so much thought into it.

A “back to top” link on these pages would be useful though. Seeing as the song names take you down the page, an arrow to take you back up would be appropriate.

I really like the article on “Becoming a Well-Organized Writer”. It’s so simple but you have some handy tips!

I enjoyed looking through the list of resources in your other article. You have really offered some good tips here too.
worry, it should be worry; it
Don\’t should be Don’t.

Tutorials

I think on the calligraphy tutorial, the two images of the pen tool should be swapped around. To me it seems that the first one shows the adjusted path, and I think the jagged path should be shown first to show the change. I’m not really a fan of this tutorial as the final result doesn’t look very appealing. Perhaps you could use a thinner stroke or a bit more text to have a better look.

Hosting

This is an external link so I won’t be reviewing this.

Archives

Self explanatory.

Originality & Creativity

Your website obviously has a lot of original content; I’ve nothing to complain about.

Organisation & Errors

Well organised and not many mistakes or errors spotted.

Overall Comment

I don’t have much to say about your site, but it’s great. It’s personal and it’s well organised and clean. I sort of miss the fact that you no longer have the tutorials you had when I previously reviewed you. I believe your site was a lot more impressive that time around.

If you chose to take the tutorials down, that’s fine. For the purpose you have set out for your website, you’ve got a great website. I think that a fancier layout would be nice to see. That’s about it!

Thank you, Georgina! It was very helpful.
I know I took the tutorials down, but that was because I had problems with the backups I made of my old site. But I put some of them back up again! xD
I did create the layout myself. It’s my first WordPress theme! I know it’s a little boring, as you said, so I’ll try to spice it up next time around.
Again, thanks!
