The “I Love” Project

Every year since 2010 I celebrate my domain's birthday on the 11th October with some kind of project. In 2010, it was the 'Love is...' Project and you submitted your definitions of love. In 2011, you shared what it is that you love.

On the 9th October 2011, this design was released with a rotation above the sidebar with chosen submissions. Read more...

Site Name

You know my comments here; I’m fine with the name!

Coding and Validation

According to the HTML validator your coding is valid for the most part, and your CSS validates to CSS3. In the stylesheet, quote any fonts with whitespace (sans serif, for example).

Your coding is so very well done and very neat. I don’t feel like I can make any complaints here.

Browser Compatibility & Usability

Your website is looking consistent in Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. The dropshadow on some of the text does not appear in Internet Explorer, though.

The javascript for what appears to be your website counter sometimes hinders the loading of the page. I don’t think this can be helped, though.

The navigation isn’t as aesthetically pleasing as I’d like it to be. I think it could be a bit larger, considering the large amount of text in the header, and the large size of text used for the <h1>. It could be bigger to balance it out, as the navigation is an important part of the website.

Layout

Firstly to the navigation – as I mentioned, it could be bigger. Having it on the right seems really “separate” from the layout. I think it would look a little better with more padding, and together with the advertisements you have beneath it, all with the background. It seems a bit cramped in its current position.

There are a lot of horizontal lines in this layout which I believe you could reduce. The bold colours are very nice. I’m not a fan of the pink but because the bold brings out the distinct lines and sections of the layout, the navigation and “sidebar” might look a little better without the lines between each item.

I feel like the colour scheme has one colour too many but the styling is really well done and incorporates these colours nicely.

Since the footer contains some important information that is separate from the actual content of the page, I think you could make it a bit more obvious. On some pages, especially the shorter ones and ones with less content, the “about” and “word corner” look a little bit out of place.

Overall I think you’ve done a superb job, you always seem to be very daring with the new layouts you try.

Content

Dork

Where you list your favourite artists it might help to write a few words beforehand, such as “The artists I like include”.

Hopefully you get to re-do the autobiography; I was actually looking forward to reading this again but it’s not done. Perhaps remove it from the navigation until it is? It’s not always a good look to have pages “under construction”.

To make the table on the favourites page neater, I suggest using <td valign="top"> so that the headings line up together at the top of the table regardless of the amount of content within.

‘Folio

On the 365+ project, I think you could place more whitespace between each album on the days in which you completed more than one. It’s a bit squishy.

I’m not going to read through each and every one of your poems. I think the list of links could be improved though. Since there isn’t really a long blurb for each poem, I think you could make the links smaller or remove the underline to make it less bold. Perhaps keep it the way it is and write the blurb next to the title? At the moment I’m not liking how it looks; the right alignment also throws me off a bit.

I really like the way you’ve set out the typography. “Click” could be written as “Click the thumbnail” or “Click the image”.

“Corners” was a really good read.

In the first excerpt for Vincent and Mordechai, performanceyesterday should be performance yesterday.

Views

I actually didn’t know this meant “reviews” until I clicked on it and realised. I was a bit confused at first.

On the Twisted Maze review, the site title says “Imajenation”.

Stuff

I love the icons; they look terrific.

Since you’re using h1 on the articles page, it messes up your layout. I think you forgot to edit this page accordingly.

The colour palettes look great; definitely a good idea to have put in the colour codes with their backgrounds.

On the smilies page, do you mean “transparent backgrounds” instead of transparent smilies? I have seen transparent smilies before, so if you’re only referring to the backgrounds, it would be a better idea to write “transparent background”.

The fifth and sixth sky textures link to 404s.

I love the icon tutorial, it’s very well done. I look forward to seeing more.

WWW

There was pretty much nothing wrong with this section. On the “People in Blogs” page, you could try and put the data in a table, because the images throw off the organisation. By using a table to display these, you could effectively organise the pictures with the blurbs.

On the credits page, Fuzzable.com doesn’t exist.

On the past layouts page, I don’t think you updated this with your previous layout.

Originality & Creativity

You always have very original layouts. I notice you use a great deal of typography in all your layouts. They all are very unique, and your content is also very well done. I would like to see more icon tutorials, maybe even a typography one.

Organisation & Errors

I think you have done an excellent job with the organisation; the breadcrumbs, titles and organisation of pages is very well done and very accessible. I can tell you’ve put a lot of thought into it. I think a few of the headings could be evened out with more blurbs under each, or the horizontal lines removed. There’s too much going on with the horizontal lines, especially when present in the layout header and the content of the page.

Overall Comment

I don’t have much to say. You’ve done a fantastic job and I find your site very impressive and original. I think the design of your current layout could be fixed in a few places but other than that, everything is very well organised, you have put a lot of effort into your website that I can see.

Keep up the great work.

Thank you, Georgina! I always make so many little, silly mistakes due to not paying enough attention to obvious things. /um
Gotta proofread things more. :)

FYI, I live in Australia and I use Australian/British English spelling. I don’t appreciate you correcting what is on my website when this is the way I write.

I hope you know the English language started in England, which is in the British Isles. Technically, “organized” is the wrong spelling.

I’m a bit confused as to why you’re telling people to “grow up” when you didn’t even know that there are multiple spellings of several different words in the English language because there are so many different “dialects”.

Surely you should be the one to grow up & open your mind instead of closing it. You would know that our English is different from every other English speaking country that was not colonized by us if you paid any attention in your history class. Noah Webster, the first “American” to create the dictionary changed our English language by spelling words differently so that we would have our own language separate from the British. Fairy for us is “faerie” for them. Organized for us is “organised” for them. Color is “colour” for them. You should know this & the fact that you don’t indicates that you need to grow up.

Just because you’re an American doesn’t mean you have to be so ignorant. Had you asked, “how come you spell organized with an s?” you would’ve come off as curious instead of someone who thought she knew what she was talking about.

Not sure why it was necessary for you to call Georgina “Miss British English” when the way she writes is HER language. Much like she wouldn’t go on your website & say, “lo siento Miss Mexican Person”.

If you haven’t noticed, America tries to be different from the rest of the world & has rebelled against it’s “motherland”. We drive on the right side of the road as they drive on the left. Our steering wheel is on the left as theirs is on the right. We drink coffee more than tea because of the Boston tea party, not the current ridiculous nonsense that is going on now. Our official language is not even English. By de facto, it is English but it is not our official language. Just an FYI. Read a book.

surely she could have just told me. i didnt even tell her in a bitchy way, and did not mean for it to come out in a bitchy way. she is the one who thinks she’s miss perfect or something and someone finally tells her one thing she did wrong (even if it was just in my eyes) and she calls me a fucking bitch. and yet, im the one still getting yelled at? i didnt bother to read what you wrote. mostly cause i thought i established the fact that me and you dont like eachother. oh, and by the way i spelled dont wrong. and eachother. georgie, or anyone else, go ahead and tell me my misspellings. ill be sure to tweet about how you are all fucking bitches.

:-)

You’re the most ignorant person I’ve ever encountered on the internet, Jessica & that’s saying a lot.

She’s not American, she doesn’t speak the same “English” we do. Get that through your head.

I like that you think we’re bitches when you start the more shit & drama wherever you prance around. Georgina doesn’t think she’s miss perfect. LULZ YEAH please go tweet about it. How old are you again? 12? Grow up.

17 actually. And oh my gosshhh…seriously, i dont think you are getting my point. The only reason i think you are all stupid is because i corrected her word and she couldn’t have just said “actually, here in Australia, that’s how the word is used. thanks though”…SOMETHING like that. why call me a fucking bitch? ANSWER THAT. cause that’s all i want to know and NONE OF YOU HAVE ANSWERED THAT. you all start lecturing about some other bullshit.

and i said the tweet about how you are all fucking bitches, because that is what Miss Georgina did to me. She should have directly said it to me too. That is what i call being a PUSSY.

And i understand what you guys are saying about that there are different “languages” and spellings, that’s not even why im mad. that’s cool and fine with me that you guys are telling me this, cool, great, now i know. MY point is that i dont know why i deserved the whole “fucking bitch” thing, when a simple “american english is different from british english”…that would have been fine.

so im still waiting.

I didn’t remember your Twitter username at that point in time. I also apologised after you acknowledged my admittedly insolent remark, thereby I too admitted that I had made a mistake in calling you something I should not have.

Yet since you haven’t accepted my apology, well, I’ll take it back. You can’t even take an apology, maybe you should grow up. Thanks for your input, nevertheless. :)

This is why I think Twitter is the dumbest effin’ invention of the internet decade because of stupid petty “fights” like this. This e-drama makes me feel like I’m back in high school again & I’m definitely NOT a petty little teenager who has nothing else to do but start fights.

Georgina left you a reply that said she lives in Australia, did she not? You then went on to say, “Hahaha. This made me laugh. Sorry Miss British English,” which demonstrates your sarcasm & attitude.

A simple, “Oh I didn’t know that, sorry!” would have STOPPED anything else from happening.

Even though Georgina apologized for calling you a bitch she probably called you one in the first place because you ARE ONE.

There’s your answer. You are rude, obnoxious, a know-it-all, immature, ignorant, & a bitch. I’m not perfect & neither is Georgina but at least we don’t pretend we’re innocent. We can admit our faults.

I’m sure you won’t bother to read this comment either.

Hey Jessica,

You sure love creating drama don’t you? This has just completely reminded me of the Skeletons post, but I’m not going to go into that again because you know what I think of you after that happened.

If you’re going to correct Georgina’s spelling and grammar (which is different to the one she even uses!) then I can correct yours, right? :)

I’m* I* don’t* American* English* British*

I think that’s about all of them :)
