Site Name

I like it! It’s unique and easy to remember. I’ve never heard the word ‘love’ with a word like ‘shock’.

Coding and Validation

Your coding is valid.

Your CSS is also valid.

This really shows you care about the inside of your site as well as the outside, and I’m very impressed. You obviously keep your coding neat and organised and most of your other pages are validated too!

Browser Compatibility & Usability

Looking in Browsershots.org, your layout looks the same in most browsers.

The layout is centered which is great. Your navigation is clear but there’s a gap to the right – it isn’t evenly spread along the bottom of your header image. Increase the width from 110px to something like 127px – that will make sure it’s even.

I would change ‘journal’ to ‘home’. I was a bit confused how to get back to the homepage after a quick browse.

The text is easy to read!

Layout

I really love the header image. It’s so simple yet so intricate. I like the dotted detail – that’s something I haven’t seen very often!

I like the simple choice of colours as well. I really like the simple shape of the rose in the image and the way the dotted lines just frame it.

The thing I don’t like is with your CSS. You’re using blues and yellows and it really clashes with the pinks and reds. It looks nice, and readable, but a little bit ‘random’, for want of a better word. A bit of light white or grey or different shades of red and pink should be used instead.

Try Draac’s Hex Color Chart to get the hex codes for a bunch of colours.

Content

Owner

Be sure to write this page nicely by capitalising Is on this page. You should proofread this to make sure it’s grammatically correct.

You don’t need to capitalise listed things like Music, Makeup.

Capitalise things like R.I.P, America; perhaps link to “profileheaven”.
Claustiphobia should be Claustrophobia
its so flowing should be it’s so flowing
a lump i still should be a lump; I still.

Be sure to correct all the other mistakes. Spelling/grammar mistakes aren’t very professional!

Visitor

Normally people make their own button bases so I’m a little bored when I see them on websites. I can’t remember the last time I made one, haha. Yours are okay and simple.

On this page you have links to ‘home’ and ‘resource main’. I don’t think they’re necessary because people can click back, or click back on ‘visitor’. People generally use it for deep linked pages. If you choose to use it though, I recommend putting it at the very top of the page above the title, and separating the links with a dash or something, so it doesn’t look like one big link.

The icons are quite nice and I like the simple effects on them. You need a line break after the word ‘models’ though. I do hope you’re using some legal stock images for these icons!

The textures are terrific. I love them! I don’t really like hte black ones though, they look a bit pixelated.

The thumbnails for the printable bookmarks should be a bit wider. They’re too thin. These are quite cute! I think they should be much larger though. To print this off would result in quite a small image. I would recommend making them about twice as big.

These smilies are cute! I like the round ones!

Brushes are ‘coming soon’. You should remove this page if it isn’t up yet. You’re giving the visitors the impression that your site is unfinished.

About

This would be better named ‘site’.

Again you need to write this page in better grammar and spelling. I’m sure you know what I mean – capitalise your Is, capitalise Piczo and Freewebs.

Affiliates and advertising is coming soon. Why not wait till you’ve finished the page? :(

Credits page is good.

Past layouts is coming soon.. ugh.

Tutorials

You’ve only got one tutorial. It’s good you’ve written what version of Paint Shop Pro it’s for.

This tutorial could be better spaced out – gaps between images and possibly between steps. Of course, spelling and grammar errors should be fixed.

Originality & Creativity

Well, I haven’t seen anything hugely original apart from the layout. You didn’t have much content that I hadn’t seen before.

You’ve got a creative use of colour in your layout and CSS but it doesn’t quite work out with the header image, that’s all. I’m sure you’ve got potential. The textures are a great example of creativity, though.

Organisation & Errors

Things were well organised – but the ‘coming soon’ pages weren’t good at all. They left a pretty bad impression on me. I wanted to see what you had – rather than what you didn’t have.

You need to write better – neater, and obviously in something that can be read easily; more professionally. So please proofread your work – it shouldn’t be like a chore or anything like that.

Overall Comment

Emmie, I’m glad you took the time to validate all your pages, which is a great start for a site just opened. However you obviously need to build up on content, which is the obvious thing.

You also need to make sure you write in an acceptable and more professional manner, which won’t make you come across as ‘just a teenager’. Your CSS needs a bit of work just in making sure it works with the layout.

All in all, my suggestions are to correct your spelling and grammar mistakes, and don’t have ‘coming soon’ pages. Just add your pages as you go along. Work on more visitor content, of course.

That’s about it – good luck with your site!
