Site Name
I like ‘Leaving Town’ a lot. It sounds great and it’s not a noun so you can fit anything to it! I’m quite curious as to how you got it, because there’s a few songs out there by the same name.
I say this a lot – I’m not a huge fan of hypens, but of course it was your choice to use one
Layout
Your layout looks very polished at just looking at it, it’s quite easy on the eyes and the colour scheme and CSS is looking good.
However I have a problem with your header image. It looks fine in Internet Explorer, but in Firefox, the background of your header is lighter than the main background you’ve used:

I’m actually not sure on how to resolve this issue, but Firefox just seems to be making your header image lighter, which makes the difference in the background colour. Unfortunately, according to browsershots.org, the colours are different in every browser but Internet Explorer. I’m not sure how to overcome the problem, to be honest. Maybe you could change the header to a transparent .PNG or a .GIF, if possible, but other than that, I’m sorry that I have no other way of helping.
Now that that problem’s out of the way.. your header image itself is really nice. I like the use of brushes as a very light background and that they’re very subtle so it doesn’t look overloaded.
Your navigation is clear, but it’s not centered. I have a fairly large screen resolution and the space on the right hand side of the screen becomes obvious. I have looked at your source code and I think I see the problem. You have your div container. Then you have the header and your navigation in separate divs. If you notice, my layout has the navigation directly under the header, and I did this by adding a <br> after my header image. I don’t use a header div, but I think that if you end your header div AFTER the navigation, it would probably center your navigation in bigger resolutions.
Your coding looks okay from what I’ve seen. It’s not entirely valid, as you can see here. You only have a few errors which are easily fixed. All images in your doctype need to have alt tag, even if it’s blank. You also need encoding information. The following is the most common one to use:
<meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8" />
Whew! That was a lot to take in. Apart from these minor (yes, they’re minor!) coding errors that made your layout look a little funny, you have done a great job on the layout. Your CSS is almost perfect, I love the headers, the font’s great – I would just suggest changing the navigation background to something like #E8F5D0 because it’s a little too bright.
Content
L-T.ORG
Your site history page is fine, a very interesting read. I’m pleased with your credits, though I do prefer them in a list. It’s nice you’ve included why you’re crediting them.
Your link buttons are all very nice. I really like the range of coloured ones. I notice the first one of each size is possibly from a previous layout – why not make one using this layout?
I wonder why you don’t show your past layouts. I’ve seen your previous two, and they looked great. A past layouts page would be nice as it shows the different sorts of layouts you make.
WEBMISS
Great start, it’s got me reading right away! Your kitten is very cute! The questions you have answered for your visitors are well answered. I really like that you are letting people know that using celebrity images is illegal.
In your third paragraph, wnormally should be normally.
In your fifth paragraph, isFriends should be is Friends (and it’d be an idea to put ‘Friends’ in quotation marks or italics).
I recommend quoting or italicising the television show names.
You really introduced yourself well and in a humourous way. I’m not so sure about the notes you have about people contacting you. I think it would be better if you simply stated:
Don’t complain to me about your personal life. I’ll just ignore your messages.
rather than elaborating.
This section was well organised!
VISITOR CONTENT
The avatars are lovely and very beautiful. The page is very organised and I like how you’ve included your rules at the top.
These colour schemes are great! I really love how you’ve named them. Personally I wouldn’t use them but all these colour schemes are great.
On your link button bases page, your rules are all in one line instead of being in a little list like your avatars page. You should put these rules in a list also. I love these button bases, they’re very nice.
Your brushes are great. I think you should have an image file showing all the brushes, because the previews don’t really do it that well for me.
The tutorials are also very good, and they are very easy. I suggest noting what program you used for the icons because some functions may not be available in some programs – I don’t know if you used Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro!
REVIEWS
I won’t review these for obvious reasons. But I have dropped by LT reviews before. I like this new layout, it looks great. The CSS looks great as well, and I just love how you use the kitties for a score!
I’ll definitely be returning here to read your reviews because I think they’re great, and I would love for you to review my site sometime.
Originality
Not a celebrity image that I can spot – well done! I am totally in love with your CSS. Your site is small but obviously you’ve worked very hard on it and everything is your own (or used legally).
Organisation/Errors
Your website is very organised and very neat – it’s amazing. You had a few errors with your layout and coding that I addressed above.
However I was impressed by your spelling and grammar, which is also evident in your blog and reviews. No broken links were found either – that was great! I also like the LTJ fanlisting you created, by the way. I’ll be sure to check out their music sometime
Overall comment
Hannah, your site was extremely organised and that really amazed me. Your ability to match colours and fonts in your CSS just makes me ‘wow’.
You don’t have much visitor content but I notice you are a really great writer. Your reviews entertain and educate me and your layouts are always stunning.
I don’t have much more to say, but reading your blog.. FanUpdate has an ‘insert read more break’ when you type your entry. It’s the second last little icon above the entry space
Good luck with FanUpdate and keep up the great work on the site. I will visit you again in future to apply for a review!
