Site Name

Falsetto is a unique site name that is easy to remember!

Coding and Validation

Your coding is validated.

Your CSS is validated. Great job!

Browser Compatibility & Usability

The site looks the same in most browsers according to Browsershots.org.

Your default font is of a good size, and your navigation is clear. However I preferred your navigation directly under the header.
Your links are also easy to differentiate.

The layout is centered, two thumbs up! And it’s not too wide either, so it’ll look great in smaller resolutions.

Layout

I love the purple and black combination.

I like the detail in the black background and how the text ‘Falsetto’ really complements it. I think the text could be moved down a fraction, because it looks like there’s a large gap under it.

Your text looks great on the light purple background. I like the styling and how the headers in the sidebar differ from the content, and the sidebar sections have a grey background. It really adds some variation.

The footer is a nice match as well, but in Firefox and Internet Explorer they are different. In Internet Explorer there’s a purple strip under the grey, which doesn’t look as nice as a plain grey footer in Firefox.

The layout is simple but looks very elegant.

Content

Normally I don’t like welcome messages; they’re usually skimmed past by the visitor. But I think the photo makes it more interesting, and your message isn’t too long.
You don’t need to capitalise “graphics” or “articles”.
If you’re not accepting affiliates then I don’t think there is a need to have the ‘Apply?’ link.

With your advertising sites and the SOTM button currently on your blog, an ugly blue border appears around them in Internet Explorer. (In Firefox, the border is purple.) Try adding border=0 to the image tag.

Graphics

I love the little previews. This page is well organised. Pallets should be Palettes. Like I mentioned to someone:

according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
palette – a thin oval or rectangular board or tablet that a painter holds and mixes pigments on
pallette – one of the plates at the armpits of a suit of armor
pallet – a straw-filled tick or mattress

The button bases are nice; I like the patterned ones best.

I like the colour palettes but I don’t think many people use them; they usually try and pick colours on their own.

These little icons are really cute!

Articles

Do no should be Do not.

On your first article on skin/makeup tips:
you face should be your face
hard, should be hard;
skin, should be skin;
strokes should be strokes.
if it wasn’t should be if it isn’t
its caked should be it’s caked
over top should be on top.
This is a great article and well explained. Pictures would be great, if possible.

On your second article on eye makeup:
Sophisticated loo should be Sophisticated look.
This is another great article that really interested me, even though I don’t like makeup! Again, pictures would be great.

Falsetto

On this main page:
Piczo, should be Piczo;
crappy, should be crappy;
i should be I (you have this several times throughout this page)
its actually should be it’s actually
boutique should be Boutique (it’s a name!).

You mention Vicky here, why not link to her site? The paragraph seems unfinished. Did you mean to write ‘came to be’?
By ‘new link’ I’m sure you mean to say ‘new site name’.

On your ‘About me’ page:
name, should be name;
Its very should be It’s very
ear to should be ear
teacher, should be teacher;.

You’ve got a lovely list of music. Links to websites or videos would be a great idea as well.

You’ve only got two pictures on your pictures page. They’re quite small so they could fit on your ‘About me’ page without taking up too much space. It saves a page as well.

On your ‘The Boyfriend’ page:
boyfriend, should be boyfriend;
hes should be he’s
but for once should be but for once, with him,
friend, should be friend;
msn should be MSN
cousins should be cousin’s.
You and your boyfriend sound so sweet together. Best wishes for the future!

On your advertising page:
your set should be you’re set.
The font size on your package details and application form is larger than your default text; you might want to fix that. Also, remember how I was referring to the blue border around images in Internet Explorer? Well, that happens again here with your advertised sites’ buttons.

Your past layouts page is organised nicely. Since you’ve updated your layout a little, the screenshot looks a little different.

Your credits page is great. Instead of saying ‘resources’ you might want to be a little more specific – brushes, textures.. etc.

Competitions

On your SOTM page, “domain” doesn’t need to be capitalised. “Piczo” would be better as a Piczo site.

Put a colon after Tip.

Originality & Creativity

Your site was quite original! You had some articles that were interesting and something I’ve never seen before. I quite like your layout.

Your graphics are minimal but what you have so far is a nice foundation. I think you really have potential here. I’d love to see more articles.

Organisation & Errors

Your site was well organised! I didn’t find any broken links or major errors, just a few spelling/grammar/punctuation errors. You did a really great job here.

Overall Comment

Kaytlyn, your site was impressive and looked neat and professional. It also looked very well organised, even though it needed a few tweaks here and there.

It was considerate of you to validate your site for the review. I noticed that you had a few errors while I was reviewing but now I have updated your review to note your validated coding. I think you did a great job fixing those errors yourself and hopefully you’ve learnt some things to keep it that way!

I would only suggest that you add more content, because your site just seems a little empty. I’d definitely keep expanding the content you already have.

Good luck with your site!
