There’s some confusion in my site name. The name of my website is Heartdrops – not Heart Drops or HeartDrops. That will save you pressing the “Shift” key.
I love the song Raindrops by Armor For Sleep but I could not think of a name with the word “rain”. I thought of ‘heartlight’, derived from the song Injection by Rise Against – “as a light turns off inside your heart”. I didn’t really like it so I merged the two songs together: Heartdrops.
I guess “Heartdrops” would refer to drops in the shape of a heart. It sounds like some kind of candy, but the reason I like the name is because it’s versatile. It suits things mostly sentimental and a “prettier” look, but it can also be something happy.
The Story
2001-2003
I learned HTML when I was about ten years old, from Neopets pet pages, and learned more from Draac.com. That website helped me a lot. I had a few webpages at MatMice (simply displaying pictures on the internet that I liked), before signing up for a website at Freewebs.
I had the website name Beyond Paradise, and used layout templates for several months. All I had on my websites were personal things like my biography and my favourite websites.
November 2004
I had a short break from the website due to schoolwork. I then had a go at coding layouts on my own. I had my longest-running site name of Out The Window (four years, 49 layouts), where many of you may remember me from.
I made all my layouts in Paint. Back then I had a pixel website so I had a few pixelled, scribbled or collage-type layouts. I also had a few layouts with photos of my favourite bands, such as The Beatles and Nirvana.
July 2005
My account at Freewebs got blocked and I moved to Angeltowns to run away from the ads. Unfortunately, they removed free hostees without notice due to some problems, and I lost most of my files as I didn’t have backups.
September 2005
I found Tracey at electric-ribbons.com who was willing to host me. Her host had some problems though, and both our sites were shut down not long after I’d made my home.
November 2005
After a very long time searching, not wanting to return to Freewebs, I moved to 50webs. They had no ads and gave me enough space.
July 2007
I was offered hosting by Liza at Visual Nightmare. After a year Liza’s site had some temporary problems but I decided to move.
July 2008
I moved to be hosted by my friend Bennilyn. Through the three months I was hosted there, my site changed a lot. I started to use PhotoShop and converted my site to PHP, not to mention being more original and using my own photos and images.
October 2008
I moved here to Heartdrops; after entering a few domain competitions and being unsuccessful, I decided to just buy my own domain for a bit more freedom and to start afresh.
I purchased my domain from Websitedomains after doing a fair bit of research. Heartdrops opened on the 11th October 2008 and was hosted by Rigrag.
November 2008
RigRag had problems with its server and I made the quick change to be hosted by my friend Hannah.
January 2009
Hannah could no longer afford hosting so I moved to be hosted by the wonderful Kya.
December 2009
Since owning many other domains, I decided to transfer Heartdrops to my account at NameCheap. The transfer initially failed because I forgot to remove the WhoIsGuard protection on my personal information but after reattempting, it went very smoothly!
